Tribute to My Little Tiger Tony   Leave a comment

Tony Cat supporting ALDF’s #TinyTigers4Tony Campaign

Apologies for the absence…recently I lost my own “little tiger” ~ my beautiful cat coincidentally named Tony. Back in 2008 a very good friend found Tony Cat’s adoption article in a local newspaper, (he was already named Tony by the shelter.) I read Tony’s story and once again felt fate brought me a very special boy. I adopted Tony Cat on September 3, 2008 and we shared almost 10 years together. I was truly blessed to know and share a life with this kind gentle soul. I like to believe my Tony Cat is with his “big cousin,” our beloved Tony the Tiger.

There is not a day that goes by where I don’t think of Tony the Tiger…I love this tiger and I’m so thankful I got to visit him and tell him how much he was loved by his friends and how hard we were all trying to help him. What a beautiful, majestic boy. Tony truly was and always will be the ambassador for captive tigers – he was known world-wide, and raised tremendous awareness to the issue. I’m sorry Tony never got a wonderful sanctuary home.

If you haven’t done so, please sign Animal Legal Defense Fund‘s petition to Tiger Truck Stop owner Michael Sandlin at: https://act.aldf.org/page/6167/petition/1

If you ever visited Tony and have pictures you’d like to share please e-mail freetonythetiger17@gmail.com

One again thank you for your support and understanding.

Reposting from Animal Legal Defense Fund

Felines, big and small, deserve protection—and now your tiny tiger can help raise awareness and build support for Tony the tiger.

Tony, a Siberian-Bengal tiger, has endured more than a decade of misery at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, Louisiana. Living at an isolated gas station parking lot, with the stench of fuel and the drone of diesel engines, is harmful to an animal with such sensitive hearing and an acute sense of smell. The Animal Legal Defense Fund has been fighting for Tony for seven years, and we are waiting for a court decision that could final grant Tony his freedom to be relocated to a reputable sanctuary, where he can live out the rest of his life getting the veterinary care and environment he deserves.

To participate, simply print out the “Free Tony” sign, snap a photo of your tiny tiger with the sign, and post it on social media with the hashtag #TinyTigers4Tony.

Click on the either the color or black and white image to print your sign!

Don’t forget to tag us so we can share your photo with our supporters.

Gracey’s book “The Tiniest Tiger,” written by her Mom Joanne, is a  charming story about a kitten who tries to find her way home with the help of wild cats at a zoo such as a tiger, lion, leopard, cheetah, puma, jaguar, bobcat, and ocelot. Along the way we learn interesting facts about these cats. It’s a great introduction to wild cats for children. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of “The Tiniest Tiger” book benefits conservation projects for endangered wild cats in Africa, Asia, North America and South America through the Conservation Fund of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. “The Tiniest Tiger” supports both small and big cat charities.
