Many animal welfare organizations were contacted in regard to Tony’s situation, and we are grateful to ALDF who responded and supported the efforts to relocate Tony to a big cat sanctuary.

Thank you so much for your concern for Tony the Tiger, and for contacting the Animal Legal Defense Fund. We were very disappointed to learn that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries granted a renewal of Michael Sandlin’s permit to keep Tony. Sandlin is the owner of the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, La., where Tony is kept in unnatural confinement and is subjected to noise and diesel fumes 24 hours a day.
In November, ALDF filed a petition with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, arguing that Sandlin’s permit is in violation of state and local ordinances. Rest assured that ALDF is continuing to investigate our legal options with regards to Tony’s case. Please continue to help in the release of this tiger. Something is very wrong with the picture. So many violations, and always an extention to correct the problem. Good Old Boy network very much alive in Louisiana and Tony continues to suffer.

I t is beyond my comprehension why a permit was granted to Mr.Sandlins,all the animal organisations and supporters who have worked so hard to free Tony the Tiger only ever wanted what was best for Tony and that was for him to be free from his concrete prison ,the noise and fumes ,and to have a more natural life in the sanctuary that was available to him,why was that denied to him?why would the Lousiana department of Wildlife and fisheries who by their very name are supposed to be working for the betterment of wild life animals renew the permit and condemm this poor Tiger to perhaps another miserable 10 years in that hell hole ,who are they helping ,certainly not the animals.,
